Quick report on the ThingsCon Salon in Rotterdam a week ago. This time the launch of ‘The State of Responsible IoT Report’, was the best excuse to listen to some of their contributers. And I was one of them. The Salon was gracefully hosted by the folks of Sociaal AI Lab Rotterdam.

Really the report is well worth your time to check out! A lot of original research, but also practices and tools to reflect on how we intertwine tech in our day to day lives, not to mention how to do it smart. Link in the comments. Oh, and I was the official photographer this time! Which is also time to experiment and hone my skills to capture events.

Like Richard Ayoade says: we give you the goods and have a little fun. This time the speakers got their physical copy of the report, which smelled wonderful according to publisher and designer Andrea Krajewski and chief editor and coauthor Iskander Smit.

I love my contribution on the ThingsCon.org RIOT 2026 Report, because I teased out quotes from you, the visitors and speakers at the ThingsCon event ‘Resize, Remix, Regen’ last year. I used a very informal and quick witted interview format I called ‘hot takes’. So my contributions are actually your contributions

The Soul Connection is een jong koor in Woerden, opgezet en geleid door Maaike Sneekes. Hun repetoire bestaat uit nieuwe en oude soul, maar ze zingen ook graag gospel, disco en R&B. Ik mocht een van hun eerste optreden fotograferen.

Gebaseerd op persoonlijke verhalen over liefde, genegenheid en familie zongen diverse solisten van het koor hun favoriete lied.

Het publiek werd aan het einde van het optreden ook opgeroepen om mee te doen met dans en meezingen.

Elk jaar zijn er een aantal ThingsCon events. Heel fijne events waar academici, fylosofen, ontwerpers, engineers en makers samenkomen met een gedeelde interesse. Zoals de naam impliceert, was Internet of Things het hoofdthema, maar tegenwoordig is het onderwerp veel breder. Van calm-design tot ambient intelligence.

Dit is een fotoserie die ik maakte voor ThingsCon van het diner. Ik neem vaker mijn camera mee, omdat ik het leuk vind om mensen in hun natuurlijke habitat te fotograferen, als ze creatief, en sociaal zijn. Remmen weg, lekker nerden en fijne discussies.
